Snake knot

Is it a snake knot?

I call this new knot the snake knot, because it resembles the snake knot often seen in paracord bracelets. But in all honesty it's not exactly the same knot. However I could not find a better name for it! If you think this knot should be called something else, do let me know!

Snake knot

Snake knots are simple looking decorative knots that when knotted alternating create surfaces that look like knit. Both sides are incredibly pretty.

Step by step tutorial

You'll need two cords to make one snake knot. One cord that does not make a knot (filler cord) and another one that wraps around the filler. You can make this knot with either your right or left cord. In the video I demo the knot with the right cord.

  1. Take your right most cord and make a loop on the right.
  2. Cross the working cord over your two cords to the left.
  3. Bring the end of the working cord under the two cords to the right and through the loop.
  4. Tighten.
Snake knot tutorial

To make a surface of snake knots, always knot them alternating the cord pairs. By alternating I mean that every second row you skip the first and last cords. This way you “attach” all the knots to each other and create a net. If you were to knot always with the same cords, one knot after the other, you would create strings of knots rather than one flat surface.
