Two different ways
In this video I'll show you two different ways to make this knot, or more like two different ways to tighten the knot. But let's first learn the knot step by step.
Knotting
Start from the left. There are two steps for this knot:
- Bring your second cord over the first cord and then under it so that it returns to its original place. Then bring the same cord again over the first cord. Grab a hold of the loop you just created by pinching on where the cord is doubled.
- Now grab the cord that is inside the loop that you just created (it's the first cord of the row). Take that cord up and through the first loop.
And then you just keep repeating the first and second step. Once you have made the second loop you can let go of the first one. Always hold just one one loop in your hand. Here's how you continue:
- Skip the third cord and take the fourth cord in your hand. Bring it over the third cord and then slip it through the loop you created in step 2. This connects your two knots and creates this wonderful knit-like surface! Then bring the cord under the third cord back to its original spot and then once more over cord 3.
- And then repeat step two, and so on.
Now let's talk about tightening these knots.
Technique 1: Leave them loose
This is the first technique I show in the video and how I usually make this knot. I knot the entire row and leave the loops loose. Only when I'm finished with the whole row I tighten everything. Finding the right cords can be a little tricky at first but gets quite fast when you know what to pull!
Technique 2: Tighten as you go
Around minute mark 05:30 in the video I show you how you could make the knots by tightening the loops as you go. You have to leave each loop loose until you make the next loop, but after you have the second loop you can tighten the previous one.
Let me know in the comments what you think about this knot and which tightening technique is your favorite! What would you like to make using this knot?
