Chinese cross knot
This Cross knot is one of the easiest Chinese macrame knots. It's often used in projects where a stable loop is needed for hanging, like in lanyards, but I like using it in decorative pieces such as wall hangings or coaster!
The folded cord segments form a cross on one side of the knot and a diamond or a square shape on the other.

Step by step knotting tutorial
For a video demonstration of the knot you can head to the first knotting lesson of the Cross knot coaster tutorial here.
STEP 1
You need two working cords for making this knot. Place one cord on the table horizontally going from right to left and the second cord vertically going down, on top of the first cord.
STEP 2
Fold the horizontal cord over the vertical cord.
STEP 3
Fold the vertical cord over the two horizontal cords.
STEP 4
Fold the vertical cord back down behind the horizontal cords.
STEP 5
Fold the horizontal cord back to the left, passing it under the first two cords and over the third through the loop.
Tighten the knot.
Here's the finished knot from both sides:
Let me know what you think! What would you use this knot for?
As this is the first knot tutorial I made without a step by step video, I would love to hear from you which format you prefer? Comment below!
I like it.
I like it but I learn more from watching the hand movements and think I would benefit from a video more.
